The Recreation Department is jointly funded by the County of Upson and the City of Thomaston. We offer sports programs including fall & spring soccer, fall and spring softball, fall and spring baseball, tee ball, flag football, tackle football, track, cheerleading, basketball and adult church softball.
The Recreation Department is housed in Thomaston-Upson Civic Center. The Civic Center gym is home to youth basketball program November through mid-March. The Civic Center gym can be rented for large or small meetings and events during March up to early November. Conference rooms are also available for rent for smaller meetings and events.
The Recreation Department manages five community parks including: Eddie Collier Park @ Potato Creek Heights, Lincoln Park, Logtown Park, Thurston Park and Salem Park. The Recreation Department assists City of Yatesville with Yatesville Park.
Athletic venues include: Civic Center Ball Park (F#1, F#2, F#3 and F#13 all lighted), Little League Field (lighted), Soccer Complex (8 soccer fields, one lighted field), Tee Ball Complex (4 unlighted fields), Girls Softball Complex (2 lighted fields, 2 unlighted fields), James Dawkins Football Complex (one lighted regulation field and one unlighted flag field), one seasonal outdoor pool, one indoor pickle ball court, one outside sand volleyball court and one skate park.
The Civic Center is also home to Thomaston-Upson IQ Lounge.
Many community organizations meet at Civic Center such as Kiwanis, Woodman of the World, Humane Society, Cherokee Rose Quilt Guild, Retired Teachers, Hobby Club and American Legion. Civic Center hosts Red Cross Blood Drives, job fairs and Chamber events.
The Civic Center is also the site for all Early Voting and serves as polling site for Town District for city and county elections.
