Statement from Upson County Commission Chairman Norman Allen
As Upson County prepares for any effects we may experience from Hurricane Florence we must keep those in the direct storm’s path in our thoughts and prayers. While we cannot predict the effects we will experience here we will welcome anyone evacuating those areas that may end up in our community seeking safe harbor.
Our local chamber president, Lori Smith, has ensured that our local lodging vacancies are reported to the state, this would include the facilities at Sprewell Bluff Park. As we did during Hurricane Irma last year we well ensure any families that seeking shelter here are taken care of to the extent possible.
Our Sherriff, EMA and County staffs, and our volunteer fire departments are better trained, qualified, and equipped today to handle storm damages. We learned a good bit from Irma and took those lessons learned and made the proper investments. We stand ready to respond and ask everyone to remain safe and to continue to monitor updates from the state and our EMA throughout the duration of this storm.
