Upson County Commission Chairman, Norman Allen, was raised in Upson County. He attended Rock Hill Elementary, Upson Junior High and graduated from R.E. Lee Institute in 1977. Following graduation, Chairman Allen attended Gordon Junior College, and was employed part time with Thomaston Mills In 1980, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served on active duty for over thirty years. Chairman Allen retired from the U.S. Navy as a Command Master Chief. Upon his retirement, he entered the civilian workforce as the Operations Manager for Tidal Wave Auto Spa. He transitioned to an employment opportunity with Mister Car Wash for 3 years as an Area Manager before ultimately returning to Tidal Wave Auto Spa. He was elected to public office as Chairman of the Upson County Board of Commissioners in 2017, and was reelected to office in 2020. Chairman Allen has been married to his wife, Liz for 38 years and they have two sons and four grandchildren.
When asked about his motivations for running for public office in Upson County, Chairman Allen stated, "My desire was to foster strong county and city relationships with a focus on building a brighter future for our children and grandchildren."
Chairman Allen works diligently in a multitude of different areas in his position, but the top three topics that he feels the most passionate about are promoting positive economic growth and opportunities, maintaining Upson County's rural lifestyle and appreciation of its diverse cultural heritage, and keeping Upson County a healthy and safe community in which everyone can thrive.
In Chairman Allen's free time, he loves to golf because the sport keeps him active and allows him the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful sites at the courses he plays. He is an avid fisherman, and he is especially fond of fishing trips in a kayak on the Flint River. He and his wife, Liz are also honing their cooking skills together, and they enjoy trying new recipes and types of food.
